LA-EA2/70-300 tests

We have been trying to get a better BIF AF solution for the Nex 7. Having returned the 6, we decided to give the LA-EA2 another try.  With the adapter we wanted to try an OS tele (the only one in this range is the Sigma 70-300 OS) and a fast AF option (in this case the Sony 70-300 G) without OS.

The following are representative shots for the first day of shooting.

First, LA-EA2 performance with the Sigma.  BIF approaching the camera.

All straight from camera with no PP.

First series . . .

Second series . . .

Next a comparison between the Sigma with OS and the Sony w/o OS

Sony G

Sigma OS

Conclusions to date . . .

1.  The LA-EA2 makes the 7 a much more robust AF solution.  We still need lots of practice/setting adjustments/etc, but this adapter changes the capabilities for AF on the 7.

2.  With the high shutter speeds that BIF shots require, OS does not seem to be a necessity.  And for an old guy, that surprised me.

3.  The Sony is a noticeably better lens than the Sigma (for the price difference it should be).

If nothing else changes in the next couple days, our SEL 55-210/DH1758 TC combo will be going to a new home.

Any constructive comments or observations are welcome . . . .
