Maybe a silly question on wide-angle lens

Re: Maybe a silly question on wide-angle lens

I wonder why there is no wide-angle fast prime lens: 15mm is F4, 21mm is F3.2.

- As others have pointed out, this isn't true - Pentax makes a 14/2.8, and third parties also provides some options.

- Also as others have pointed out, makiong a wide lens fast is that much harder than doing the same for a normal lens.

- Another point: the advantage of having a "fast" lens at a shorter focal length is much less than the advantage of having a "fast" lens at a longer focal length.  For one thing, handholdability is not much of an issue at shutter speeds you'd never attempt with a longer lens. For another, you'll never get the same shallow DOF effects at shorter focal lengths that you do at longer one - except by relying on proximity effects, which work pretty well even with slower lenses.  That is, if you stick a wide angle lens right up close to an object, the background will be pretty out of focus even at f/5.6, since it is (relatively speaking) so much further away than the subject.
