Ultimately I'm looking at IQ. Have never been that impressed with W/A zooms anyway - especially when one considers the mass.

So, the thought was buy something like a 21mm F2.8 Zeiss and crop back to 24 mm if needed.

Assuming a 24 MP sensor, this results in an 18 MP image - which might be a little on the low side for landscape.

Anyway, it was a hypothetical question to elicit responses.

As somone also responded one could use say a 24 mm and stitch - but as you point out, cropping can be beneficial to reduce the lower IQ of the edges which doesn't happen if one stitches (more or less - depends on the overlap) and, of course, one would end up with a diminished vertical perspective.
