It appears Canon has solved the banding issue? 6D!

Seriously, I fail to see how it is the camera's fault that you mess an exposure up by 4 stops and then are annoyed that you can't fully recover.

Simple. Take a landscape shot where you want detail in the clouds with the sun. Now pull the shadows so they fall in the midtone area where they should be. I used to use graduated ND filters more....but the DR on my D800 is so good I need them less.

Emphasis added on "less" part.
