A major US chain retailer (B.....y) is giving out everyone an extended Price Match/Return/Exchange period for purchases until January 24th.

This policy is so that you can buy now, give the gift for Xmas, and still have a 30 return period.

But, with any store, read the fine print. Many only allow a certain amount of shutter releases, and any more will either result in a restocking fee, or a refusal of refund.

Also, most return policies require the item to be returned in "new sell-able condition".

So sure, you can baby the camera for two months and worry about dust spots, or you can just buy a camera and use it, along with some sensor swabs and Eclipse solution to clean the sensor, which will probably be required anyway if you are actually going out and taking photos.

Since this would be a defective product, Nikon will swallow the expense, not BB, nor any retailer. So why BB don't exchange the camera regardless how many shots taken, just within the return time window. You are right though if S.O returns a camera because he doesn't want it/ or changes his mind.
