For complex lenses like these with lots of elements, we might be talking about three or so percent loss of light due to reflection altogether. So to gain half a stop extra in this department is beyond the pale. See here for example:

Understood. Very interesting article - thanks for sharing it. I figured it wasn't practically possible that better glass would make a half-stop difference in this case, but it looks like it's not even a theoretical possibility. Thanks for the info!
