IMHO, this link will take you to the most helpful site for new photographers. It allows you to adjust light, ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture, and EV compensation - all from the convenience of your computer.
(It may help if you make one adjustment at a time so that you can see the effect and avoid confusion.)
