The A77 makes better pictures, no question about it. Also the jpeg engine has improved. With the A550 I shot in RAW but with the A77 I only shoot Xfine jpegs. You can rescue a lot of under exposed shots or brighten up the shadows.

In every way the A77 is just better, you won't be disappointed.

I gave my A550 to a nephew, he just uses it as a point and shoot in full auto mode. He doesn't know anything about photography.

Everything I've read and been told told about states the A580 is much better in low light situations then the A77. But since I don't own an A77, I can only go by what you all say, and so far it would appear the A580 is best. See, I should have kept my Nikon d700, just for such occasions...Live and learn.. No disrespect towards Sony guys...Love my NEX 7 and even the A550 suffice outdoors as a backup...
