probably wider than 50mm then

Hi David,

what is your equipment?

I assume you have an APS-C sensor body.

If you do a lot of landscapes and night time cities etc then I'd say you might like some wide angle.  A 50mm lens, giving you around 75mm on an APS-C sensor, isn't the thing.

The 35mm f1.8 gives you a "classical" 50mm equiv field of view.  Wider alternatives include:

- the old 28 f.28 (around $200 or less but has some flaws);

- the 28mm f1.8 (better but much more expensive around $700);

- the old 24mm f2.8 (around $300, quite good)

- the old 20mm f2.8 (around $430)

The older designs can often be found second-hand as well.

If you have access to a store, or to someone with a nice collection of lenses, I think it is a good idea to put some of these on your camera, to check whether you like what you see and get.
