What is the cha cha method?

I'm interested in using my Canon 7D for doing some 3D photography.  I am familiar with the stereophotomaker software and have experimented a bit with reasonable results, but I would like to do as good a job as possible.

My question is will someone please give a good description of the cha-cha method?  Is this done by shifting the camera from eye to eye, by swaying side to side, or by using a mechanical device like a slide?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer.
