Considered moving back from the 15-85mm to the 18-55mm kit lens

Here is contrast comparison contra light

The 18-55mm IS II I tried now has much better resolution than the 18-55mm IS I got with my 450D about 3 years ago. Probably coincidence, because both are optically the same. Not much in it to my 15-85mm UNLESS you are shooting against the light.

Here are 2 representative shots of a series, not even against the direct sun but at bright overcast. Note the dark colours e.g. the lamp stalk. Curiously, not only the contrast of the 18-55 is low, but the sharpness seems also reduced. (Exif data should be visible)

Much as I would like to use it, I don't see the 18-55 suitable despite any tests showing high resolution.
