Exposure compensation question

Exposure compensation question

I'm getting used to my D800, but have a continuing issue. For some reason I keep accidentally changing the exposure compensation, and I sometimes forget to look and see if it's OK. How can I "freeze" the exposure compensation so that I have to activate it intentionally?
