Canon i-contrast setting versus post processing in raw opinions sought

By default, at least on the G15, the i-contrast function is disabled when shooting in raw mode.  I believe there are conditions such as attempting to maintain a blue sky in harsh lighting where the i-contrast setting may be more effective than post processing a raw image.  If I'm not mistaken I believe that in i-contrast situations, the camera will selectively alter the ISO in certain parts of the image to avoid blowing out highlights.  Many people feel the benefits of this approach outweigh the slight increase in shadow noise.  Not sure how this can be replicated when post processing a raw image.

Would you agree, disagree, comment on above thoughts?
