Is Lightroom the standard? Or Aperture?

I have a Mac and have been using iPhoto.  I had been considering upgrading to Aperture (which I can't try because there is no trial.  I downloaded the Lightroom 4 trial.  It seems a little complicated, but honestly since I have to learn whatever software I buy there will be a learning curve and it probably doesn't matter much which way I go. I don't tend to be hugely opinionated about the software I use, it's just a question of what I get comfortable with, so if Lightroom is pretty much the industry standard I would go with that.  If it's split and Aperture would be better due to integration with iPhoto and the Mac generally, maybe I would go that way (although I suppose the downside is that I will always be limited to the Mac platform).
