Yes, at a meeting many years ago, a participant rose and said to me "Depth of focus is in image space, depth of field is in object space". So there's no way I should forget that.

I used to tell my classes of amatuers to remember the difference by recalling that "Fields" are big things,

... too big to go inside cameras!

Sensors are so flat, compared with film, Depth of Focus has more-or-less ceased to be of concern, of course.
