Why is the 18-200mm not as powerful as the 70-200mm f2.8?

I've had both lenses for a few years, but it was only about a year ago when I noticed the difference in magnification between the two. The 70-200 has much more magnification.

The 18-200mm looks more like 140mm at full zoom compared with the 70-200, when used on the same DX body.

I do know that the 18-200 is a DX lens, but I still thought the mag would be equal.

I use the 70-200mm f2.8 for birding, etc. Whereas the 18-200mm is more of a general purpose snapshot lens.
