any advice on which to get? I have a 6000z and this will be my 2nd cam.
OR should I get a G2, G3 from Canon??

I am really frustrated that I love the Fuji quality so much but they have no weather protective casing like Canon does .....

thanks to anyone who may have any words on this.

No contest,

I've played with the F700 and it will blow the G2 and G3 out of the water. Incredible pics for a small camera. Lots of functions too. The S602 is a totally different ball game. If you don't mind the "larger" size, then it'd be a close call between the F700 and S602. For me, I'd still do for the S602, just a bigger zoom, bigger lens, etc etc PLUS it's still in production for a while.

If you have weather protection needs, then think Canon. Silly thing to get frustrated over. Have you read posts in this forum regarding all three of those topics .... give it a search, then use your gut feeling.

Happy shooting

Isn't it amazing that virtually EVERY digital camera "shootout" involves the Fuji s602?

Wonder why?

Could it be that it truly is the BEST all-around digital camera available, but everybody seems to have a problem with something about it?

I think so...

It all depends on how you feel about the importance of size. If you want a camera that can always be in your pocket AND has the most features of any small camera, the F700 is really outstanding. Richard

I think you have something there! :) It is interesting that the s602 is always in shootouts with the Sony f717, Dimage 7i, Nikon 5700 and G3's all of which are technically higher megapixel cameras. The only reason it would be included is that it's a darn good camera!

What do you mean you've "played" with the F700? You have sample pics that are incredible?

I sure did mate. We had a photgraphics show here (mini-PMA) last weekend (yesterday) and I took some pix with one at the show (a production model). There was a Fuji Photo-Print machine there and he let me print them out. For some unknown reason he didn't let me keep them :-(. BUT the INDOORS shots WITHOUT Flash were unbelievable. (wrt S602). The green zero-light focus beam (LED) was cool too :-)

Wow, you sure are lucky to have played with the camera personally! What do you mean that the camera was a production model? Wouldn't it be pre-production, since the camera hasn't been mass-produced?

Your glowing review makes me wonder whether I should place a pre-order for camera to insure that I get one on the first batch. I had previously stated that I would not buy this camera until I've seen an official review or hear a half a dozen owners rave about it on the forum. However, I'm afraid that with production cut-backs anticipated by the SARS outbreak that stocks of this camera may be instantly depleted once released.

I assume you've seen enough to pre-order? :-).

I dont have any advice sorry! But i was just thinking $550 seems kinda cheap. I live in the UK and if i converted the price i paid for my S602 into dollars it would be $795. the uk prices are such a rip off.

Just the right time at the right place, pure luck.

They're ready waiting for an LCD?

Please don't order on my "biased??" report, I am certainly not qualified or have enough comparative skills as Phil does. There "may" be other "letdowns", many other specs I could NOT possibly check. The only things I can verify is - CC4 works WELL (dynamic range is HUGE), no-light Focus works WELL, Focus Tracking works, indoor pix have very low noise (no Flash). The unit is too way small for me unfortunately.

I was going to choose between the F700, s602 IF i can find it for

He said they have "Real color" from "real pixels."

Strange, but I think he said it beacuse I am about to begin printing on a canon s9000 or epson2200/ for 13x19 prints.

I am SO tempted to get a 601z YES a 601z to tide me over through the summer, give it to my godson and proceed with 4th generation Fuji by summers END instead. What do you (all) thiuk?!?
Take care,
Tom

Well, according to Kirk, the F700 could be out in early summer.

Well, the things that you verified is enough to sell me! So, why do you say that camera is too small for you? Couldn't you use a pocket cam to go with your 602? Anyway, it sounds like you would definitely upgrade to a new 602 with the SR sensor, given what you saw in the F700.

Thanks for all the info.

ROFL, I LOVE "salesman talk". The "cr*p" I heard at the show, I aged 2 years from all the adrenaline "rushes". Even the Fuji F700 guy "went off" when I "accidently" called it a 3MP sensor ;-)

You can put me on notice that - 1/ S602 production will recommence 2/ F700 IS on the production floor waiting for LCD's and "maybe" last parts.

I like big lenses and want the MAX light "efficiency" I can get plus I "NEED ALL" the features the S602 has. And I'm also in the group that says "you can't be a professional if you don't look like one" ie People will think you're a dork showing up with a teeny BOX camera, irrespective of what it can do. This is'nt meant to start a new flame-war :-). There's already an excellent recent thread on this issue. Mate, I'd bolt an electron microscope to my S602 if it'd make me look "cooler" :-). Trust me, people DO step aside when you show up with a BIGGER apparatus :-)

Indubidably.
Thanks for all the info.
You're welcome

MEANS THAT ONLY THE 601Z meets those requirements! I dont need to wait for the F700 but I am reluctant to get the 601z and its $249 casing but IT SEEMS WAY COOL. I wish there were newere pocket sized ones with as good a picture as Fuji, but somehow, for me, the SUPERCCD pixel mumbo jumbo translates into great color and his res pics even with my 6800 -- i hope the 601z is going to be a good camera too. THANKS ALL

Maybe you should consider the new Fuji 310 which has the new ccd

I recently purchased my S602Z, making the transition for film to digital photography and love the 602. It's a very flexible camera, probably one of the best when it comes to shutter lag, it's fast. I tried the Nikon 5700 which was extremely slow and the Olympus 5050 again the shutter lag was bad which made these cameras almost unusable for any action photography. The Canon G-3 was a lttle better. I think that shutter lag is one of the bigger factors holding digital photgraphy back. The Fiji S602 won't let you down in this a area. Anyother bonus is shooting video with this camera, well, it's very good. I really researched digital cameras before buying the 602 and it amazes me everytime I use it. Don't get too hung up on megapixels or you'll miss out on a great camera. I took a 6 megalpixel (interpilate) for my boss and again I was amazed.
Good luck,
Austin

I bought a 601 today since it (might) have a waterproof case from Fuji.

In case they don't come through I will be exchanging the camera.

(p.s.: the 602 is avaialbe for 579 base price right now. Is it out of production? I ask because I would get this and protect it with something I was told about at B and H in NYC)
