It isn't only Epson. A Canon printer that I had suffered the same fate. I can understand a breakdown but not a deliberate effect like this.

I have noticed something else with my latest Canon. It has no draft function. I use it mainly to reproduce Xwords for my wife and only need draft copies. The printer has a 'fast' function which I naively thought was a draft function... wrong.

Ink usage proved that this was a fatal mistake. The only way to produce a genuine draft copy was to manually set the intensity to a low value and save it as a program on the printer. I wonder how many have been taken in.
