The Tamron 28-75 f2.8 (which I used to own) is a very good starter option for FX. Get the first version, the one without a built-in motor. It's reputed to be the fastest focuser. This lens is a nice, but still compromise lens: it's not as sharp at f2.8 as the Nikkor (which I own now), and it is not as wide (28 vs. 24mm). You must decide if this is important enough to forego the cheaper/older 28-75 f2.8. As for Tamron's newest 24-70 f2.8, I'd wait for reviews before jumping on it.
