During a product presentation by Nikon Switzerland I was able to play around with the new 70-200 f/4 VRIII lens and direct compare the handling and build with the 70-200 f/2.8 VRII, mounted either lens on a D600, D800 (w. and w/o grip) and D4:

- the build of the new f/4 version feels solid, but slightly less sturdy than the f/2.8, more in line with the 16-35 f/4 or 24-120 f/4, which is not a surprise

- it's small and light lens compared to the f/2.8 version, very similar to the 70-300 VR

Thanks for your impressions. Am really looking forward to getting my hands on this lens. I will sacrifice the extra reach of the 70-300 (an adroit companion to both the D300 and D7000 for shooting shorebirds/Birds-In-Flight) if the new 70-200 has appreciably faster AF and noticeably better IQ at 200mm.
