Not being a frequent user I don't really know how to send a pix here. Directly under the lens area I can stick the end of my scale into the gap and it gaps for about 3-1/2 inches along the front. It is probably 1/16 of an inch at the widest and I suppose I can cover that with electrical tape to keep the dirt out.

Whee - an almost brand new $3,000 camera held together with tape.

No, don't use electrical/electricians tape. The tape's adhesive deteriorates with time (weeks or months) becoming sticky, gummy and very hard to remove. It would be much better to get a small 3 oz. tube of silicone sealant that you squeeze out of the tube like toothpaste. It cures pretty quickly, forming a flexible, rubbery substance that is long lasting and very stable. It's waterproof and weatherproof, and can last 20 years or more even if it's exposed to sunlight, ozone, rain and snow, oil and grease. Many types can withstand temperatures ranging from -65 to +400 degrees fahrenheit. It comes in several colors, usually white for use in bathrooms where it's usually treated to withstand mildew (but I haven't seen this type in several years), and pet stores often stock black and clear tubes for sealing and waterproofing aquariums. If you want to remove it, it's usually pretty easy to pull it off by hand, where it peels off in a long, rubbery strip.
