May be I'm wrong but I think you can divide your subject in four cuadrants and take one shot for each one. Then you can merge those pictures and have a single 5472 x2 ,3648 x2 = 10944x7296 (76 megapixels) image.

This is the way Gigapan (http://gigapan.com/) works.

This technique works better for non moving subjects.
