I keep hearing the same thing about the V1. That is worked great on 20D/30D and 1D cameras, but NOT on any FF camera. It was great on my 1D, but not on any of my FF...

The more you write the more convinced I get that you actually never owned lens.

What utter nonsense!

I owned the 24-70 2.8 Version 1 for 8 YEARS! And used it with a 1DII, 1DIIn, 2x 1DIII, 1DIV, 20D, 30D, 5DII and 5DIII.

It was NOT that great on my 5DII and 5DIII.  Looked great on my 20D/30D and good on my 1D.

The center of the lens was VERY sharp so shooting with the 1.6 and 1.3 camera used the sharpest area.  BUT on a FF, esp when shooting groups where people would be near the edges, anything less then F4 was SOFT.. Send to Canon, got it calibrated to my camera, NO DIFFERENCE. And I do not mean out of focus soft, I mean at the pixel level at 21MP it was soft..  the Version 2 is sharp of the pixel level...
