Jim's comments are right on.

Because Nikon hasn't upgraded their top-end DX cameras in awhile and all are due for upgrades soon, if I was buying something now for wildlife, I'd buy a used D300 or D300s that doesn't have too many shutter clicks because of it's advantages in focus, tracking, buffer size and fps.

Then, in the next 6 months when we see what other high end DX cameras arrive from Nikon ( like D7100, D9000 or D400), you can buy one of those for a serious upgrade that should last you 4-5 years at least.
