you will quickly outgrow the features of the d3200, likewise the 5100. more megapixels are not the answer to better pictures. the d90 and d7000 both have more features, (you dont have to use them until you are ready to, but it is always nice to have them if you want to experiment). both can be bought at a good discounted price if you shop around.

given the choice between a d3200/d5100 and a pair of lenses, or the d90/d7000 and one lens i would go for the latter. you could learn to use the extra features at your leisure, then decide what you really want re lenses and enjoy!

the d3200 is there to satisfy gullible people who think the best camera is the one with the most pixels. anything with more than 12 megapixels is more than adequate.
