And f4.0 is the real killer.. it's completely useless indoors. Right here in my room with two 100W lights on, I need ISO5000 to get a 1/100s shutter speed at f4.0. That's just awful.

Ridiculous statement, "completely useless." This one's indoors. No tripod, but squatting using tops of legs for stabilizing elbows. f/4 would have done me no good on this shot anyways. This was a warehouse environment, mixed light sources, but hardly bright.

A nice image captured from the 'useless' 16-35. f/7.1, ISO1000, 1/8th, 16mm

1/8s is NOT a useful shutter speed. Yes, the lens has VR but that doesn't help you freeze motion. Even at f4.0, your shutter speed would be 1/25s which isn't very fast still, but you also weren't in particularly dark conditions either.

Fine for your motionless subject, but still worthless for pretty much any other application. VR is nice for some things, as I said, but f4.0 is no good for general low light work.
