If the camera can follow stars, then it can also shift the sensor for higher resolution.

Astrotracer need to be only as good as one pixel, or not even.  Sub pixel sampling requires precision and repeatability about 4x better than that..   I'm not sure the K-5 has the capabilities you describe.
