Re: Painful for MFD users too

There are certainly ways around it, and fortunately Apple still makes a 15" macbook (non-retina) with firewire. It's only slightly concerning in that most people I know who shoot MFD usually run Macs and some companies, like Hasselblad, are still holding onto the Firewire technology in the H5 backs that were just announced 2 months ago.

Unfortunately MFD back companies change technology as fast as an ocean liner changes course, and their clients may be even slower to change as they may be using a 10 year old camera, so if the technology the clients rely on to use the camera changes more rapidly there can be a few years of pain during the transition. SCSI had similar transitional issues, but at least there desktops could have internal SCSI cards added and laptops could have PC cards added... we can do something somewhat similar with thunderbolt now but will need an extra AC adaptor or just stick to an older computer.
