My guess is any new Nikon VR lens launched above budget price will have VR III.

If a 16-35 constant f2.8 VR arrives and takes front filters a lot of 14-24 lenses may go up for sale - including mine.

Many problems turn out to be a lack of intimate knowledge of complex modern camera equipment.

I think it would arrive one day. The 17-35/2.8 is still listed as current 2 years after the release of 16-35/4 VR, so it would have to be replaced one day.  And according to photozone test results the 14-24 didn't score a complete victory over the 17-35 either.

Now that the modernization of the FX lens line up is in decent progress, it's time for Nikon to bring out something as ground breakiing as the 14-24 was in 2007.
