I think you will be very happy with the 50 1.2 as a portrait lens.  It's a little shorter than what I like best (85mm), but you have it, it's a great lens, and you can test whether you enjoy working in manual mode before choosing another lens.  It will also give you a chance to see if you like 50mm - if you do, but want AF, I think the Sony 50/1.8 is a very nice lens for the money.

I kept my eye out for a high-quality 85mm prime for several months before I finally found one to buy, so even legacy glass in this range can be tricky to acquire. I'm not sure why, but that fast 85 is a rare beast.
