Just looked at these again. #3 is amazing. Were you using focus peaking on these?

I was using focus peaking. I find it quite usable in most situations. I am developing a routine of quickly focusing until the pupils glow with yellow peaking, then bump the AF/MF button I have set for focus zoom. I use that to quickly micro-adjust then shoot.  It only takes a fraction of a second, which generally works for adults. For faster-moving subjects, especially with wide apertures, I tend to just take three shots in succession once I see "the yellow of their eyes"... moving my head and camera half an inch or so each way, in case they move a little or the peaking isn't dead on.  It's not perfect, but I seem to get a fair number of usable shots that way.

If you take a great photograph, I really don't care whether it came from a Leica or smartphone. Just share it.
