First of all you have a great camera in the Nikon D300. It should take super sharp photos with lower noise level than the FZ200 and you should be able to shoot at significantly higher ISO settings.

The value of the FZ200 is its size and versatility. The constant 2.8 aperture lets you shoot in lower light and the 28-600mm zoom gives you fantastic zoom range. Its weight and size makes it so much easier to carry around than a full function DSLR and lens.

Only you can decide if its the camera for you. If size, versatility, zoom range and weight are important factors then it is a good camera for you. If you want the best quality then the Nikon D300 is a better camera. The Nikon D300 would also be better for action shots.
