All 285-HV have safe trigger voltage.

Some 285 (non-HV) have UNsafe trigger voltage.
Must be checked with voltmeter, which is easy. Under 12 volts = OK

Recent model 285-HV are made cheaply by successor company, not original Vivitar. These are not real HV model, because they have no input for High Voltage power supply. They are also not very reliable, which is a shame, because the orginals were great. Many of them worked well for years and years.

These days it's probably better to get a Yungno model.
