Oh! That's the reason I sold my first 35-70 too! My first DSLR was the Fuji S5 (I only used 35mm film and MF film & digital till that time)... The lens I choose as a standard zoom for DX was the 24-85mm f2.8-4D, I believe that it's a great lens for DX... All the disadvantages are only relevant to its use with FF... Why don't you try one of these?
