D800 Serial # 3053xxx, Should I send it back?

Exactly what I'd do as well. Though, I agreed with my shop to exchange to another if I wanted when I bought mine, I am not sure I would have done that unless I could positively in the shop exclude the focus problem. As a matter of fact, I tested my body in the shop with one lens, so the chances of having AF issues were very little when I brought it home, but if I would have bought it through a web shop I wouldn't have returned if for AF issues but would have sent it to Nikon. Exchanging via web shops takes time also and just like you say, there is still no warranty, so best bet is sending to Nikon.

I will be purchasing my D800 soon....if I have the left AF problem...that is exactly how I will handle it.
