I had both the f/4IS and mkII for a year then sold the mkII since I rarely needed 2.8 and most of my shots were at f/4 or above, so it didn't make much sense to carry it being much heavier and larger.

The mkII would be an obvious choice if you didn't already have the f/4IS and shoot mostly with a tripod but having it there are other options you might consider like the 135f/2 or 200f/2.8 for much less weight.......and cash.

If I was planning a shoot that really needed a fast, long lens, I'd grab a prime instead...........
