If you do the shutter count lookup on an EPL1 (or any other Olympus PEN/EM5) on page 3 of the diagnostic screen, you can get the MCS number, which date codes the year/month of manufacture.

It's also in the EXIF, as the internal serial number.

You need is to have someone with a "new" EPL1 tell you the first 7 digits of the MCS number. Unfortunately, uploading an image to DPR galleries appears to strip it out of the EXIF, so it has to be a user lookup rather than supplying an image to check with an EXIF reader. Maybe a new owner wants to know the shutter count anyway.
