I am personally a mirrorless fan, though I have plenty of respect for DSLRs.

A mirrorless camera sounds like the ticket from your original post. They are capable of everything that a DSLR can do, though mirror boxes have an edge when using telephoto lenses and tracking moving objects.

Which camera will inspire your creativity?

For eveything else, mirrorless is great, and the portability is amazing.

Here are some Amazon prices:

Sigma 30mm 2.8 - $199

Sigma 19mm 2.8 - $199

Olympus 45mm 1.8 - $399

Olympus 40-150mm 4.0-5.6 - $179

Olympus E-PL1 with kit lens - $279

Panasonic GF3 with kit lens - $329

Panasonic GX1 - $439

Olympus E-PM2 with kit lens - $599

Panasonic G3 - $329 or $399 with kit lens

Thanks, that's really helpful! Still trying to decide, hahas.
