Re: Question: why people buy high end cameras for snapshots?

One man's snapshot is another man's masterpiece.  I suppose all photos can be graded by apparent technical proficiency evident, but remember that ultimately images mean different things to different people.  A photo of a someone's daughter may be to you just an image of a girl, while to the photographer/dad, it is so much more.

But what bugs me more is the number of users I read about on the various DPR forums who buy high-end DSLRs and shoot 8-bit JPEGs instead of 14-bit RAW.  This is plain lazy, especially with all the wonderful editors like Lightroom that may processing RAW as simple as clicking Export.  For people who archive, I could not imagine archiving my images in already degraded JPEG form.  This makes zero sense but apparently is common for many users.
