New 7D Lens choice: 70-300L or 70-200L + 2xTC (Or Sigma version?)

Morning all,

As per the title really.

Looking to get a 7D over Christmas as a long overdue upgrade to my 1000D which I out-grew about 2 years ago...

My current lenses are: Sigma 10-20mm, Canon 50mm 1.8 II, Canon 24-105 USM (bit knackered), Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro.

I think I'm right in saying my existing 70-300mm will struggle to keep up with the 7D, and as I've got from 10mm up to 105mm covered fairly well, this would be the obvious one for me to replace, especially given I'm a keen wildlife photographer.

I often find I want more range than 300mm, so having a 2xTC on the 70-200mm is quite tempting, but I've read mixed reports about IQ with this combo. Or will I find the new 70-300L offers the range without the compromise in IQ? But this is countered by the fact it's not as fast (f5.6 at 300mm vs f2.8 at 200mm and f4 at 400mm).

My other option is the Sigma versions of the 70-200 and 2xTC which would save quiet a bit of £££, but seems to lack the weather-sealing which is one of the main reasons I'm going for the 7D over the 60D...

Oh the dilemna!
