Question: why people buy high end cameras for snapshots?

That's what the NEX is made for!

Your question kinda sounds like forum-bait, but I have a hard time seeing your average consumer buying an A77/99 just to take casual snapshots! Way too much camera for most people.

I've been a Sony fan for decades and have been a semi-pro photographer off and on for a while. I also take shots of my family and little girl now, so I splurged on a NEX-7 because I already had a NEX-3 and really liked it. It was just a fun, good-quality camera to carry around. The NEX-7 is definitely pointed at those who can shell out the extra money, but it's good for a someone who likes the small size and is willing to step-up to a better camera but doesn't need the "pro" features.

I think the NEX-3 or 5 is the perfect camera to take snapshots! It's a high-quality, inexpensive and FUN camera.

If you want a still excellent 5MP camera, find a now vintage DSC-717. You'll be surprised how good it still is!
