Re: Filters for G12-Lee?

On a number of forums and reviews the issue of wear on the G12 lens actuator system has been raised, usually just as a question.  So I posed the matter to Canon on the Support email system.

I Asked:

"I just got a Canon Filter Adapter FA-DC58B.  Will this device wear out the lens actuator on my Canon G12?  The first sentence under 'Attach the filter adapter' in the instruction sheet says 'Be sure to remove the filter adapter when not using a filter.'  This defeats the purpose of using this adapter to project the lens, no?  Will using this adapter all the time cause the lens actuator to fail?"

Canon Answered:

Dear [MyName]:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support regarding the Canon Filter Adapter FA-DC58B for your PowerShot G12.

The instructions state to remove the filter adapter when not using a filter in order to not damage the camera in case of any impact damage involving the filter adapter connection.  It has nothing to do with the functions of the camera.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your PowerShot G12.  Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

I hope this is helpful to any others who had the same concern I did.
