With their current pricing strategy there are fewer affordable lenses of any FL. If you are looking for the bargains it will be in kit lenses or the used bin.

The optimist in me would like to think that the current line of higher-prices EF primes (24, 28, and 35) will open the door for some lower-prices EF-S primes (15, 17, 22, 30). More likely, any future lower-priced primes will be EF-M and APS-C DSLR's will continue to exist in zoom-land purgatory.

That'd be me, too.  While not getting "L" designations, the new IS USM short primes look definitely aimed at well-heeled artists and pros.

I think/hope we xxxD/xxD hobbiests will get something more economical in the future.  But it'll probably be STM rather than ring-USM, a la the $200 EF 40 f/2.8 STM.
