the 24-105L was released in japan at 145,000 yen. for around 1250 USD MSRP .. the rumored 24-70 is rumored around 145,000 yen as well - but with the laughingly poor USD - that will roll in around 1600-1800.

amazing (and sad) to what a difference around 7 years can make to the USD.

I don't think the USD is "laughingly poor," I think it's artificially low in order to encourage exports and discourage imports.  One way to balance the trade deficit.  When it's trading equal to the Canadian dollar, there's something distinctly weird going on.
