i DO know that MAP regards to advertised price.

i DO know that actual sale prices will be lower.

i am NOT a Nikon user, check my gear and galleries, i've shot with Canon since film days and a am a follower.

1- The psychological impact of a high advertized price vs the a lower is significant, especially in this economy.

2- As i am living in a country that has an idiotic and totally unacceptable, over priced Canon dealer it's really frustrating to see a move that victimizes other reasonably priced online dealers (pixmania for example).

3- Canon is on the top of the SLR sales but as a firm that pioneered in affordability

300D-the first affordable sub-$1000 SLR

5D-the first affordable FF SLR

5DII- the best sensor on the market for half the price of a 1DsIII

so this MAP-forced overpricing is shaming the name...........

And BTW i was planning to upgrade to 5DIII and postponed because of the price. If it had a 5D/5DII launch price i would have been already bought it.
