Re: Some sample shots of the 24-70 + D600

I think I've spent the last 5 years and many dollars trying to answer the question of the Wide Range Zoom.

- Tamron 28-300. Nice and sharp at 28mm. Soft at 300 mm even at f11. Build quaility is awful.

- Nikon 28-300. OK at 300 mm, soft at 28mm (even at f11). Middle range is good. Build quaility is excellent.

- Canon 28-300L. Apparently the best for full-frame but I won't try because it is too big.

- Pentax 18-135 on K5. Very good results in a small size. (My favorite combination)

- D300 with 18-200. A very nice super-zoom combo.

- Tamron 18-270 (first version) my favorite super zoom. The newer (smaller) one has low contrast wide open.

-OM5 with 14-150. Excellent results. Hard to get bokeh.

D600 with the 24-70 would provide excellent images, but at the expence of focal length range. The kit with the 24-85 is quite impressive and might do the trick for you.

The issue, I believe, is it is very hard to make a good and reasonably small lens with decent quality from 28-300mm for a full-frame sensor. DX or APS-C is more approriate for super-zooms at this point in time.
