Re: Bridges

This must be an old Railway Bridge Guy??

Yes, built about 1911 and abandoned about 1964. It was a low level curved bridge at Nanango to jump a swampy creek for the 3 foot 6 inch gauge of Queensland.

Your not wrong about the old Australian hardwood, I made a mistake about the year that Bridge was built that I posted up, it was built in 1866 and still standing..

If the termites keep away then the timber seems to last hundreds of years.

Other great disused timber rail bridges are the ones beside the road bridge at Gundagai and also the long fairly high trestle at Manilla NSW. Even found a reasonable sized battered old thing across a creek at Bomaderry NSW when visiting my daughter at Nowra.

I'm collecting pictures of how they are made so maybe I can incorporate an example in my garden model railway setup when I finally get something running.

Regards......... Guy
