Ok, back again to resurrect this thread having just run my friend's suspect (in my mind anyway) 24-70II over some focus charts. Shot at various apertures including 6 consecutive wide open at f2.8. Here is one of them which is very typical of the rest.

To my eyes this is back-focussing majorly. The 1-2-3-4-5-6 behind the 0 are not too bad and the numbers are even recognisable back as far as 10 or 11. Whereas things go pear-shaped in front of the 0 as early as 3-4 and by 5 the digit is barely recognisable.

Anyone else agree? And if so, what's the best remedy, take camera (5D3) + lens to Canon for recalibration?
