Re: Is Panasonic Doomed? Massive Losses!!

If you want to be a popular manufacturer at the moment be selling a 4/3" camera, a Nex, a Powershot or a Panasonic 'compact' enthusiast camera. After that you're one of the rest. The camera shrink is so evident it's impossible to ignore. Remove me and my love for the FZ50 from the equation, and the result is the same. The small sensor is becoming so good as to wreck the justification for affording anything with larger sensors. The manufacturers need to react, turn their R&D people toward the small sensor, and get going.

In but a few years a 2/3" sensor will be the 'big' one. Phones will have really tiny sensors and all have internal optical zoom. Just draw the trend curves from 2000 to the present day and extend them.

To everyone in the industry what I say is nonsense. But I'm not making anything up. I just extrapolate the trends; trends I don't fabricate.

The FZ50: DSLR handling of a bright Leica 35-420mm lens that's this good: (some real gems in there). With the FZ200 performance so good, I live in hope that Mr Ichiro Kitao has triggered the update to the FZ50. Our desire for IQ was taking us in the wrong direction.
