The sensor of the  D5100 is more than 1 year older than the OM-D and because of that, the IQ of the OM-D can be almost the same as that of the  D5100.

I'm comsidering both camera's as well. What's important to me is weight and IQ and price as well. The D5100 costs 435 euro, add a 16-85 (509 euro) and you end up with 944 euro compared to 1299 euro for an Om-D with 12-50. The weight would be 560 + 485 = 1045 g for the D5100 against 425 + 211 = 636 g. That's a big difference.

Apart from the standard zoom I would like to have a 70-300. Nikon has a good one, but the Olympus and Panasonic versions are not that good at maximum zoom. I could use my old 70-300 with adaptor for the OM-D or an old Sigma 70-300 for Nikon, but then I will need a D7000. Olympus will result in more reach.

one final thing: the OM-D is much better in video.
